At the same time he began studying the organ and flute at the Versailles Conservatory. Already passionate about Renaissance and Mediaeval music, in 1976 he met the grand pioneer of the countertenor voice, Alfred Deller, and became his pupil. He also worked with Nigel Rogers, Rene Jacobs and William Christie. In 1978 Dominique Visse founded the Ensemble Clement Janequin with whom he has made a series of benchmark recordings of French polyphonic chansons of the 16th Century. The following year he became one of the founding members of Les Arts Florissants and edited much of the ensemble's repertoire in its early years. Since that time Dominique Visse has become one of the most popular lyric artists in the world of Baroque opera, working with Rene Jacobs, Jean-Claude Malgoire, Philippe Herreweghe, Ton Koopman, William Christie, Alan Curtis, Nicholas McGegan, Christophe Rousset, Ivor Bolton and Robert King, in the opera houses of Paris, Berlin, Cologne, Amsterdam, Lausanne, Tel-Aviv, Montpellier, Houston, Barcelona, Munich, Versailles, at the Monnaie in Brussels, at the Chatelet and the Theatre des Champs Elysees in Paris, on tour in Japan and North America, and at the Festivals of Aix en Provence, Innsbruck and Edinburgh. Dominique Visse does not limit himself to Baroque and early repertoire. He has sung in Offenbach's Les Brigands, directed by Jerome Deschamps and has recorded the role of La Marquise in Poulenc's Gendarme incompris for Decca. He also frequently performs contemporary music and has participated in Luciano Berio’s opera Outis at La Scala in Milan and at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris. In July 1999 he played the role of Oreste in Offenbach's La Belle Helene staged by Herbert Wernicke at the Festival of Aix en Provence and revived in Salzburg in August 2001. In December 2002 he performed in another production of La Belle Helene in Israel followed by Rinaldo in Berlin in January 2003, Perela, l’Homme de Fumee by Pascal Dusapin at the Opera de Paris in February 2003, Florian Gassmann’s Opera seria at the Theatre des Champs Elysees in March 2003, revivals of Il ritorno d’Ulisse and Rinaldo in Munich in July 2003, revivals of Agrippina at La Monnaie and the Theatre des Champs Elysees in June and September 2003, a revival of the Wernicke / Jacobs production of La Calisto in Vienna (June 2003), also to be performed in Luxemburg in October 2003, and a new work La Frontiere by Philippe Manoury at the Carre St Vincent in Orleans, the Bouffe du Nord in Paris and on tour in France in Octobre and November 2003. In October 2004 Dominique Visse played Nireno in a new production of L’incoronazione di Poppea at the Theatre des Champs Elysees staged by David McVicar and directed by Rene Jacobs, followed by a revival of the David Alden / Ivor Bolton production of L’incoronazione di Poppea at the Opera de Paris in January 2005. Dominique Visse's most recent opera performances include Handel's Agrippina with Jean-Claude Malgoire in March 2005, a new production of Cavalli's La Calisto in Munich in May 2005, Sartori's Don Quichotte with Rene Jacobs in Innsbruck in August 2005, and revivals of Monteverdi's operas in Munich in 2005 and 2006. His forthcoming opera productions include Kagel’s Mare Nostrum and Il ritorno d’Ulisse with Jean-Claude Malgoire and the Atelier Lyrique de Tourcoing in the spring of 2007, further revivals of La Calisto and the Monteverdi operas in Munich, a new production of Giulio Cesare at the Monnaie in Brussels directed by Rene Jacobs and L’incoronazione di Poppea direction by Emmanuelle Haim at Glyndebourne in 2008. As well as his work in opera, Dominique Visse continues to perform and record with his Ensemble Clement Janequin. Their recent recording of unpublished work by Claude Lejeune has recently been released to wide acclaim. The Ensemble will be artists in residence at the Antwerp Renaissance music festival in August 2007. Dominique Visse performs recital programmes of music ranging from Machaut to Berio, via Dowland, Schubert, Offenbach, Massenet, Satie, Poulenc and Takemitsu. He has made more than fifty recordings, principally for harmonia mundi. He later pursued his studies with Bruno CANINO in Italy and Nadia BOULANGER in Paris before settling there definitively in 1977. His exceptional touch has opened the doors of the Theatre des Champs-Elysees and the Salle Gaveau in Paris as well as radio and television stations in France . Often invited to Spain, Germany, Finland and Switzerland, he has performed as well in New York, San Francisco, Noumea, Sydney, Wellington, and with the Ciutat de Barcelona, Ciutat de Palma de Mallorca and Zurich Opera House orchestras. His performances have been greeted by enthusiastic press notices, from Telerama (≪ his attention to coloring and shaping phrases and his care for the singing line ≫) to the New York Times (≪ interpretations bristling with energy and intelligence ≫) and La Vanguardia (≪ an exquisite version ≫). This pleasure of the meeting of theatre and music was renewed with ≪ Nocturne for Lovers ≫ where he played Chopin to the George Sand of Leslie CARON at the Chichester and Melbourne Festivals, in ≪ Schubert and his poets ≫ at the Theatre Moliere in Paris with Gerard THERUEL and Marc CHOUPPART, and as partner to Pierre DANAIS in a Proustian soiree at the Comedie des Champs-Elysees in Paris. He now participates regularly in the very ≪ Parisian ≫ show ≪ L’Amour au passe defini ≫ with the irresistible Denise BAHOUS. Their CD of the best-known songs of the Belle Epoque for Mandala Records, ≪ Chansons lestes et feroces ≫ met with great praise from the critics who cited his ≪ inventive and poetic piano playing ≫. Already passionate about Renaissance and Mediaeval music, in 1976 he met the grand pioneer of the countertenor voice, Alfred Deller, and became his pupil. He also worked with Nigel Rogers, Rene Jacobs and William Christie. In 1978 Dominique Visse founded the Ensemble Clement Janequin with whom he has made a series of benchmark recordings of French polyphonic chansons of the 16th Century. The following year he became one of the founding members of Les Arts Florissants and edited much of the ensemble's repertoire in its early years. Since that time Dominique Visse has become one of the most popular lyric artists in the world of Baroque opera, working with Rene Jacobs, Jean-Claude Malgoire, Philippe Herreweghe, Ton Koopman, William Christie, Alan Curtis, Nicholas McGegan, Christophe Rousset, Ivor Bolton and Robert King, in the opera houses of Paris, Berlin, Cologne, Amsterdam, Lausanne, Tel-Aviv, Montpellier, Houston, Barcelona, Munich, Versailles, at the Monnaie in Brussels, at the Chatelet and the Theatre des Champs Elysees in Paris, on tour in Japan and North America, and at the Festivals of Aix en Provence, Innsbruck and Edinburgh. Dominique Visse does not limit himself to Baroque and early repertoire. He has sung in Offenbach's Les Brigands, directed by Jerome Deschamps and has recorded the role of La Marquise in Poulenc's Gendarme incompris for Decca. He also frequently performs contemporary music and has participated in Luciano Berio’s opera Outis at La Scala in Milan and at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris. In July 1999 he played the role of Oreste in Offenbach's La Belle Helene staged by Herbert Wernicke at the Festival of Aix en Provence and revived in Salzburg in August 2001. In December 2002 he performed in another production of La Belle Helene in Israel followed by Rinaldo in Berlin in January 2003, Perela, l’Homme de Fumee by Pascal Dusapin at the Opera de Paris in February 2003, Florian Gassmann’s Opera seria at the Theatre des Champs Elysees in March 2003, revivals of Il ritorno d’Ulisse and Rinaldo in Munich in July 2003, revivals of Agrippina at La Monnaie and the Theatre des Champs Elysees in June and September 2003, a revival of the Wernicke / Jacobs production of La Calisto in Vienna (June 2003), also to be performed in Luxemburg in October 2003, and a new work La Frontiere by Philippe Manoury at the Carre St Vincent in Orleans, the Bouffe du Nord in Paris and on tour in France in Octobre and November 2003. In October 2004 Dominique Visse played Nireno in a new production of L’incoronazione di Poppea at the Theatre des Champs Elysees staged by David McVicar and directed by Rene Jacobs, followed by a revival of the David Alden / Ivor Bolton production of L’incoronazione di Poppea at the Opera de Paris in January 2005. Dominique Visse's most recent opera performances include Handel's Agrippina with Jean-Claude Malgoire in March 2005, a new production of Cavalli's La Calisto in Munich in May 2005, Sartori's Don Quichotte with Rene Jacobs in Innsbruck in August 2005, and revivals of Monteverdi's operas in Munich in 2005 and 2006. His forthcoming opera productions include Kagel’s Mare Nostrum and Il ritorno d’Ulisse with Jean-Claude Malgoire and the Atelier Lyrique de Tourcoing in the spring of 2007, further revivals of La Calisto and the Monteverdi operas in Munich, a new production of Giulio Cesare at the Monnaie in Brussels directed by Rene Jacobs and L’incoronazione di Poppea direction by Emmanuelle Haim at Glyndebourne in 2008. As well as his work in opera, Dominique Visse continues to perform and record with his Ensemble Clement Janequin. Their recent recording of unpublished work by Claude Lejeune has recently been released to wide acclaim. The Ensemble will be artists in residence at the Antwerp Renaissance music festival in August 2007. Dominique Visse performs recital programmes of music ranging from Machaut to Berio, via Dowland, Schubert, Offenbach, Massenet, Satie, Poulenc and Takemitsu. He has made more than fifty recordings, principally for harmonia mundi. He later pursued his studies with Bruno CANINO in Italy and Nadia BOULANGER in Paris before settling there definitively in 1977. His exceptional touch has opened the doors of the Theatre des Champs-Elysees and the Salle Gaveau in Paris as well as radio and television stations in France . Often invited to Spain, Germany, Finland and Switzerland, he has performed as well in New York, San Francisco, Noumea, Sydney, Wellington, and with the Ciutat de Barcelona, Ciutat de Palma de Mallorca and Zurich Opera House orchestras. His performances have been greeted by enthusiastic press notices, from Telerama (≪ his attention to coloring and shaping phrases and his care for the singing line ≫) to the New York Times (≪ interpretations bristling with energy and intelligence ≫) and La Vanguardia (≪ an exquisite version ≫). This pleasure of the meeting of theatre and music was renewed with ≪ Nocturne for Lovers ≫ where he played Chopin to the George Sand of Leslie CARON at the Chichester and Melbourne Festivals, in ≪ Schubert and his poets ≫ at the Theatre Moliere in Paris with Gerard THERUEL and Marc CHOUPPART, and as partner to Pierre DANAIS in a Proustian soiree at the Comedie des Champs-Elysees in Paris. He now participates regularly in the very ≪ Parisian ≫ show ≪ L’Amour au passe defini ≫ with the irresistible Denise BAHOUS. Their CD of the best-known songs of the Belle Epoque for Mandala Records, ≪ Chansons lestes et feroces ≫ met with great praise from the critics who cited his ≪ inventive and poetic piano playing ≫. Other recordings include the songs of Henri SAUGUET for Sonpact Records, the complete Ravel songs for Naxos (with Laurent NAOURI, Valerie MILLOT, Inva MULA, Claire BRUA and Gerard THERUEL), a Faure recital with Claire BRUA and Laurent NAOURI for Sanctuary/Resonances, a Bruce SAYLOR song cycle for CRI and the Concerto for piano and orchestra of Joan GUINJOAN with the Orquestra de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya conducted by Ernest MARTINEZ-IZQUIERDO for Harmonia Mundi. The same orchestra re-invited him to perform during the 2005-06 season in a Faure program. In the spring of 2006 he performed in Tokyo with Hiromi OMURA, at the Louvre with Paul GROVES and Laurent NAOURI and at Radio France with Anna Caterina ANTONACCI.
